New slogan for city daily after late final edition’s revival

A city daily has unveiled a new slogan the day after reviving its late final edition.

The Glasgow Evening Times has switched straplines from ‘Nobody knows Glasgow better’ to ‘For the people of Glasgow’.

As HTFP reported yesterday, the Evening Times announced the revival of its later final edition, which was dropped last April.

The first revived late final was published on Tuesday, with the new slogan being introduced yesterday – ahead of today’s local elections in Glasgow.

Glasgow slogan

Explaining the switch to readers, editor Graham Shields said: “The Evening Times delivers trusted news to an audience of 175,000 people every day. And we know exactly what our readers are interested in and what they care about.

“Our readers are interested in stories that celebrate the success of Glasgow and its people. Our readers care about what their city institutions do for them. They care about schools, bus companies, care providers and they care about safe places for their children to play. And yes, they care about their football clubs.

“So today, on the eve of a council election, the Evening Times makes a pledge to our readers… no matter where power lies at the City Chambers we will always be, first and foremost ‘For The People of Glasgow’.

“That motto has taken pride of place above our masthead on page one of today’s paper, and it will be the benchmark against which we judge our journalism.”

Nice to see an evening paper serving a city, but the people thing is so corny. Reminds me of a hospital slogan I saw “putting patients first”. Why wouldn’t you?
    Stating the bleeding obvious.
