New categories announced for awards celebrating Yorkshire journalism

New categories including Most Memorable Story and Best Blogger have been introduced for this year’s O2 Media Awards for Yorkshire and the Humber.

Entries are now being welcomed for the annual awards, with 19 prizes up for grabs in total.

In addition to the new categories, awards are on offer for the year’s best news reporter, writer, sports journalist, young journalist and newspaper.

Once again there is no entry fee to enter the competition, while the deadline for entries has been extended to Thursday 15 June 15 to accommodate submissions involving coverage of the General Election.

Nicola Green, director of corporate affairs at O2, said: “Yorkshire is growing a well-earned reputation, nationally and internationally, as a centre of innovation across all media and creative sectors. The O2 awards are there to recognise that talent.

“The O2s are unique in the way they encourage media professionals from different disciplines to compete against each other.

“It’s always extremely difficult for our judges to select an overall winner but that’s what makes these awards so highly regarded in the industry.”

Only work published or broadcast between 2 May 2016 and 10 June 2017 is eligible for the individual and team categories.

Judging panels will meet in June and July and shortlisted nominees will be announced in August.

All nominees will be invited to an awards presentation on 28 September 2017, where category winners will be crowned.
