National broadcaster backs former newspaper’s campaign

Helen FosperoA national broadcaster who began her career as a regional daily’s tea girl has backed the newspaper’s campaign to celebrate the best of its patch.

Helen Fospero, left, has backed the Grimsby Telegraph’s #IamGrimsby campaign, which aims to celebrate the town, its people and what it has to offer.

Helen’s father worked at the Telegraph for 46 years and being the Saturday tea girl there inspired her to become a journalist.

She began her reporting career on the Louth standard and is now a regular face on ITV, Sky News and Five and now reports for The One Show on BBC1.

In support of the campaign, she said: “I grew up in a loving environment surrounded by great colourful characters. I’m proud to be a Grimsby Girl and fly the flag for the North East [of Lincolnshire], which is often forgotten and occasionally mocked.

“In the words of my favourite artist Harland Miller: Grimsby – The World is Your Whelk. It’s my oyster.”

The campaign, launched last month, will continue throughout 2017.

Well done Helen Fospero – a credit to her family, her community and the staff of the Grimsby Telegraph who probably made her feel very welcome when she was growing up there.
