A story about a cat refusing to eat a cheaper brand of catfood despite recently eating a rat. Surely a tale too good to be true?
Unfortunately for the Glasgow Evening Times – it was. The regional daily attributed the story to the Daily Mash, a spoof news website, with the error being picked up widely on Twitter before being taken down.
No one would expect a creditable source like the Daily Mash to trick us with ‘fake news’. But you’d expect a journalist (unless they are being mischevious) to be sceptical when the source article quotes the cat as saying: “I’m not [expletive] touching that. Yes I will eat a rodent but those kibbles are just not quite right.”
