Ex-PA training chief launches his own business

tony-johnstonA journalist who headed the Press Association’s training arm for more than a decade has founded his own company.

Tony Johnston, left, has launched Engage Media Training Ltd, which will focus on providing editorial, journalism and content training to a wide variety of media and non-media businesses.

Tony left PA in July to take a career break after 11 years in his previous role.

He has already won two major contracts with print and digital publishers, and hopes to add new clients in the UK and abroad in the coming weeks and months.

Said Tony: “I have had a great six months since leaving PA and I have had time to assess in detail where the market for training is heading.

“The demand for quality content has never been higher and that means the requirement for high quality journalism skills is greater too.

“An increasingly broad range of organisations are looking to provide those skills to their teams and I hope to be able to support them on that journey.”

He added: “I am excited about the launch of Engage Media Training and to being able to offer clients the highest quality bespoke training solutions.”

Before joining PA, Tony ran Trinity Mirror’s training centre in Newcastle, and was also previously assistant editor at the Teesside Gazette and deputy editor at the Reading Post.
