Ex-daily editor takes on new building society role

A former regional daily editor is to serve as ambassador for a building society’s new community scheme.

Peter Barron, who edited the Northern Echo for 18 years, has taken up the post with the Darlington Building Society.

In the ambassadorial role he will become a link between “the society, its members and local people in the areas in which it has operated for more than 160 years”.

It currently has 10 branches across County Durham, North Yorkshire and Teesside.

Peter told the Echo: “I am proud of the longstanding relationship I have with Darlington Building Society, having worked in the local area for more than three decades.

“I want to use that experience, local knowledge and my extensive network to help build on the enviable reputation the society has for community involvement.”

Since leaving the Echo last year, Peter has also taken on an ambassadorial position with Darlington College and also begun teaching on a media production course at Middlesbrough College.

Good luck with your venture Pete but can I suggest you use your “extensive network” to hire a professional photographer for future publicty shots?
