Daily supplement marks 25 years since football triumph for patch

A city daily has produced a special supplement marking a quarter of a century since its local football team’s title-winning triumph.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has produced the 24-page pullout marking 25 years since Leeds United were last crowned champions of England.

Leeds overcame the challenge of Manchester United to become the last winners of the old First Division before it became the Premier League.

Manager Howard Wilkinson, who masterminded the club’s triumph, remains the last English manager to win the title.

The YEP supplement includes interviews with players from the time, a ‘where are they now’ graphic, an interview with Wilkinson and photos and memories from players and fans.

It was included yesterday’s YEP as a souvenir pull-out, and is also available to buy as a standalone publication for United supporters from further afield.

Editor Hannah Thaxter said: “With Leeds United entering a nail-biting last few games the Yorkshire Evening Post were able to provide fans with a little light relief – a 24-page supplement celebrating the glory days of 1992.

“We celebrate the day – 25 years ago – when they did it Howard’s way, and topped the league.

“Given that we have fans all over the country (and beyond) we also printed extra copies which fans outside our area can buy by post.

“If you didn’t get one, but would like to buy a copy, with the supplement free inside, you can have one posted out to you.”

Hannah paid tribute to the YEP’s “superb” sports team who pulled the supplement together.

Anybody wishing to obtain a copy can do so by phoning 0333 207 0743 and selecting option 5. The cost will be £2 inc P&P per copy.
