Daily reporter named as ‘one to watch’ by media talent awards scheme

Courtney CameronA city daily reporter has been named one of the UK’s young journalists to watch by an annual awards scheme.

Courtney Cameron, left, who works for the Edinburgh Evening News, has been named on the MHP 30 to Watch 2017 list.

The awards, launched in 2012, help celebrate the influence and importance of young journalists who are making a difference to the UK media industry.

Courtney, 24, is also nominated in the Young Journalist of the Year category at Thursday’s Scottish Press Awards.

She said: “To be named one of the UK’s Young Journalists to watch is such an honour, I was really shocked when I found out.

“It’s a challenging job finding stories and being the first to break them, but it’s something I’m passionate about. Becoming a journalist has been my dream job for as long as I can remember.

“My biggest highlights so far have been meeting George Clooney and Kate Middleton, but I love meeting new people everyday and helping others get messages out there they wouldn’t be able to themselves.”

Last year Plymouth Herald chief reporter Sam Blackledge was named on the MHP list, while former Archant group political editor Annabelle Dickson received the honour in 2015.
