Daily renews appeal to help domestic abuse survivors at Christmas

A regional daily has renewed a campaign to help women and children fleeing domestic abuse at Christmas.

The Bradford Telegraph & Argus is urging readers to donate to its Toys & Tins Appeal, which will provide Christmas gifts and food for those in need.

The campaign was launched last year with Bradford Women’s Aid, which provides support, assistance and accommodation to women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

Toys and tins of food can be dropped of at the T&A’s office in Hall Ings, Bradford.

Editor Nigel Burton said: “Bradford Women’s Aid is a fantastic and worthy charity helping women and children fleeing domestic violence and, thanks to the generosity of our readers and local businesses, was able to ensure that all children in its charge received a gift last Christmas.

“Once again we ask the public and local businesses to help us spread some festive joy and ensure these vulnerable people, living in difficult circumstances, have a happy Christmas.”

Sally Deane, director of Bradford Women’s Aid, added: “This appeal at Christmas time will mean a lot to the women and children we support.

“It will mean that families with very little or nothing will have toys and food over the Christmas period which will bring some happiness and comfort to what would be otherwise a very bleak time.”

Good on them. We never thought to do this kind of thing when I was a young reporter on the T&A 1969-1971. I can still smell the ink as I walked thru the doors each morning just before 8am.
