Daily helps struggling families with foodbank holiday club donations

A regional daily has helped struggling families by providing equipment for a summer holiday club on its patch.

The Glasgow Evening Times has donated sports equipment and indoor toys as well as pens, pencils, paints and paper to the Glasgow North West foodbank.

The foodbank is holding its first ever summer holiday club, which will treat chidlren to a range of activities they may not be able to afford.

Foodbank manager Kyle McCormick hopes the service will help parents spread out their cash and give them support before they reach “crisis point”.

Of the newspaper’s involvement, editor Graham Shields said: “We really wanted to do our best to help families who might struggle over the summer.

“Many of our readers tell us how difficult it can be to keep kids entertained and provided a square meal until the new term starts in August, so we’re glad we could do something to help.

“The foodbank’s fantastic idea of organising this summer club is a shining example of Glasgow at its best, which is something we are always delighted to support and publicise.”

Kyle added: “The items from the Evening Times will be a fantastic addition to the foodbank, and we thank you very much for helping us out.

“It means we have a good range of outdoor and indoor things for the kids to do, so we can have fun in all weathers.”
