City daily revives late final just over a year after dropping edition

A city daily has revived its late final edition just over year since it was dropped.

Glasgow’s Evening Times published a late final edition yesterday for the first time since April 2016.

The move comes after positive feedback from readers for the paper’s special run on the day of the General Election announcement, on 18 April.

The edition will be distributed to 10,000 home delivery customers and be sold by city centre vendors every day. The first edition of the newspaper will continue to be printed overnight.

Editor Graham Shields said yesterday: “We are delighted to be able to improve the product we offer home delivery readers, and customers who buy their paper direct from one of our vendors.

“We are all enjoying working for print against tight deadlines – it’s part of the newsroom buzz that’s great to have back. Today was a perfect day to go live again, with two great lines from our patch landing in the last half hour before we were due off stone.

“Dramatic first pictures emerged of the surfer rescued from the sea after 36 hours and police released an e-fit of a man sought in connection with a rape. Both made the front page.

“The investment from Newsquest Herald and Times management in our revised edition structure shows their commitment to print and to the Evening Times.”
