Call for journalists to attend newspaper’s 80th anniversary reunion

A journalist is organising a reunion of his newspaper’s past and present employees to mark its forthcoming 80th anniversary.

Scunthorpe Telegraph reporter Nick Cole wants to track down people who have worked on the paper ahead of the September bash.

It will be held at the Lincolnshire town’s Wortley House Hotel, which used to host the annual Scunthorpe Press Ball.

Anyone wanting to attend can contact Nick by phone or email.

He told HTFP: “During the past 80 years the Scunthorpe Telegraph like many other regional titles in the UK has undergone many changes.

“We’ve gone from a nightly broadsheet with the racing results in the Stop Press on the back page to a daily broadsheet and tabloid to the current weekly tabloid.

“We are very proud to be celebrating our Oak Anniversary and hope as many colleagues old and new will join us for the knees-up on 8 September at the Wortley, where we used to stage the annual Scunthorpe Press Ball.

“There is a long list of distinguished journalists who honed their skills in ‘Sunny Scunny’ – too many to mention.”
