Black and Asian students urged to apply for journalism bursary

George VinerBlack and Asian people preparing to study journalism are being invited to apply for a scholarship run by the National Union of Journalists.

Applications are being welcomed for this year’s George Viner Memorial Fund bursary, which is aimed a helping journalism students from ethnic minorities.

Applicants must be in receipt of a formal offer of a place on a course within the fields of print, broadcasting, photographic or online journalism.

More than 150 students have benefited from the fund since it was founded in 1986.

It is named in honour of George Viner, pictured above left, who served as the NUJ’s education and training officer between 1961 and 1976.

Completed forms can be emailed to [email protected] or posted to the Administrator of the George Viner Memorial Fund Trust, NUJ, Headland House, 72 Acton Street, London WC1X 9NB.
