Weekly urges Cameron to visit asparagus festival

A weekly newspaper has backed its local MP’s bid to get the Prime Minister to attend an asparagus festival on St George’s Day.

The Evesham Observer has lent its support to Nigel Huddleston’s attempt to get David Cameron to attend the town’s annual festival, held every year to coincide with the celebration of England’s patron saint.

Mr Huddleston, the Conservative representative for Evesham, made the request during Prime Minister’s Questions last Wednesday and received a warm response from the PM.

The Observer backed the bid by publicising it on Friday’s front page, pictured below, along with a comment from editor Rob George.

He wrote: “I am delighted to lend my support to Nigel Huddleston’s bid for the Prime Minister to come and join the Asparagus Festival celebrations.

“Mr Cameron, should you attend you will see the benefits of a rural economy and the fantastic coming together of the community, all in aid of the famous ‘Gras (Asparagus).

“We will also entertain you with a host of asparagus themed events, the chance to meet characters such as Gus the Asparagus Man and delicious food and ales from the Fleece Inn.

“So come on Prime Minister, why not come for a weekend break to the Vale of Evesham? We won’t mention Europe!”
