Weekly parodies cult comedy film on front page

A cult comedy film was parodied on a weekly newspaper’s front page as it splashed on plans to deal with pests on its patch.

The Fife Free Press ran the ‘Ghostbusters’ spoof on yesterday’s front, replacing a spook in the famous logo with a seagull.

The FFP reported on an initiative involving different measures that two local councillors have put together to tackle the growing problem of seagulls in the seaside towns in Fife, which is going be piloted first in Kirkcaldy.

The idea to go with the ‘Ghostbusters’ front, pictured below, came from reporter Maggie Millar.

Deputy editor Sheona Small said: “Our first idea was to have headshots of the two councillors involved superimposed on two of the original Ghostbusters line-up and to have the seagull logo secondary to that.

“However, after discussing it at length with the [Johnston Press design] hub, particularly over copyright and potential problems with manipulating an image from the movie, it was decided to go for the logo only.

“It turned out to be a good call as the finished result had much more impact.”
