Trinity Mirror launches new website for capital city

Trinity Mirror has launched a new website covering news, sport and entertainment in Dublin.

The regional publisher’s expansion of its digital operation in the Republic of Ireland follows the launch of Belfast Live, in Northern Ireland, last year.

Dublin Live will offer live breaking news, local sport, entertainment, events, local interest, What’s On listings and other features, in line with its Belfast sister website.

Set to launch officially later this month, readers are already being encouraged to submit pictures and videos to be uploaded on to the site

Trinity Mirror has said a “number” of new roles will be created by the site’s launch, but no specific figure has yet been given.

It will be edited by Alana Fearon, currently a news reporter with the Irish Daily Mirror, and published from Mirror Media Ireland’s offices in Dublin.

Said Alana: “We want to be the voice of the city and a platform for Dubliners to be proud of and share in.

“We’ll be encouraging readers to send in their videos and pictures on social platforms, sharing the best of what our wonderful city has to offer.

“The team will focus on live breaking news and live blog from the big events happening across the city.

“We will have What’s On guides, reviews and so much more, bringing everything that’s happening in Dublin together on one dynamic website.”

Published on the Escenic platform, the website promises “innovative ad formats for desktop and mobile”.

Joanne McGreevy, managing director of Mirror Media Ireland said: “The evolving success of Belfast Live has shown there is a real appetite for quality, engaging local journalism, so we’re expanding our brand of standalone news websites to Ireland’s biggest city, creating new audiences and commercial opportunities.

“Dublin Live is the third website we’ve launched in as many years, testament to Trinity Mirror’s commitment to invest in the Irish market and digital products.

“We’re very confident our new offering will quickly become the daily go-to website for users in Dublin, and beyond.”

Currently in testing, the site will officially launch in mid-April.

Let’s wish it well with its reader-submitted content and “innovative ad formats for desktop and mobile”. I trust TM will be able to get around ad-blocking software… or those “innovative formats” will be the same old nonsense. If it works it’ll be grand, as they say in Ireland. Best of luck.

Marvellous. We’ve finally stopped our silly dalliances with print. At last, the bosses are realising the future is digital after all!

Now for the age-old question about revenue…

Best of luck with the venture – obviously the Trinity Mirror Belfast Live experiment proved fruitful enough to be replicated, despite the HTFP naysayer comments when it launched, and again when it hit a million unique users.
And after the decision taken previously over the Ampped and Us v Them web-only enterprises, obviously TM wouldn’t have been too troubled in shutting down sites not making enough revenue.

Issac – Belfast live has not achieved 1million unique users yet, its highest audience was 0.732m in Dec, but back down to 0.371m in Feb 2016 – source comScore total audience. Do not get sucked in by TM claims, when it comes to digital they are usually wide of the mark.
