Student trio land jobs before graduation after course work experience

A trio of journalism students have landed jobs with companies they undertook work experience with while studying on the same course.

University of Northampton students Andrea Pluck, Matt Derrig and Jen Stowell have all begun full-time work before graduating from their multimedia journalism course.

Andrea has started on the Herts Advertiser, in St Albans, after completing work experience at the newspaper’s Archant sister title the Romford Recorder during her second year on the course.

The editor recommended her for the job after she applied to the Advertiser.

Said Andrea: “It was so useful to work in a real newspaper office in my second year and then use those skills to develop my confidence ready for getting a real job by the time I graduated. I’m loving the job, if not the early starts.”

Matt completed placements at the Northampton Chronicle and Echo and Northampton Town Football Club during his studies.

He was offered a part-time internship at the club while on the course, and was recently appointed its media and marketing officer.

Jen has been given a job writing for the British Forces Broadcasting, where she had also undertaken a work placement during her studies.
