Sister dailies launch collectible archive postcards scheme

A series of 60 collectible postcards featuring pictures from two sister dailies’ archives are being made available for readers to collect.

The Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News have announced the initiative, which will run until the middle of October.

The postcards, which can be collected free with tokens printed in the EDP and NEN, feature archive pictures dating back to the 1940s.

The first three were made available in the newspapers themselves on Saturday, with a further two printed in Monday’s editions.

Among the collection is a flashback picture of Great Yarmouth’s famous snails, a visit from Muhammad Ali to Norwich in the 1970s and a stunning lightning strike over the Norfolk coastline.

The postcards, 10 from each decade, can be collected into a special album, which can be bought by readers for £4.99.

Evening News editor David Powles said: “Over the years we’ve been fortunate enough to capture some of the most iconic moments in the county’s history and that is reflected in this wonderful postcard collection.

“We are really proud of both the postcards and the glossy album that have been created as part of this project and for anyone who loves Norfolk and nostalgia this is not to be missed.

“I’m sure my own parents will be finding a completed album in their Christmas stocking this year.”

No mention of the recent price rise on these two papers?
hopefully those that don’t currently buy it will come rushing back now it costs more for less but with some ‘free’ recycled library pictures if you buy enough copies.
It’s always a great shame when gimmicks are used to sell papers for a short term sales spike rather than real investment in staff, decent content and overall product improvement which is desperately needed and might help long term sustainable copy sale growth.

    Really?
Have the two Norwich papers finally run out of ideas to stimulate long term sales and been reduced to the old “voucher collect” chestnut in order to flog a few more daily papers on the back of a hush hush cover price increase?
When all else fails and when you`re out of ideas and clutching at straws put the cover price up and resort to cut out and collect copuons.Time was when the content was the sales driver, not recycled photos from the library
