A former weekly newspaper office could be transformed into the setting for a ‘room escape game’ used in team-building exercises.
An application has been made to turn the Loughborough Echo’s former home into a locked themed room, in which players would be required to work together to solve hidden puzzles to unlock the door.
A bid for planning permission for the first floor of the building, on Swan Street, has been submitted to Charnwood Borough Council by Hour Escape Ltd.
The Echo moved out of the offices, pictured below, several years ago after a decision to operate solely from its main office in Royal Way, off Belton Road West Extension, in the Leicestershire town.
In the description of the proposed development, the company says that the concept is a “real-life room escape game which requires players to work together to solve hidden puzzles to escape a locked themed before the timer runs out.”
The proposal goes on to say that the experience is one of team building for corporate clients, and fun and excitement for social and family clients.
The application is for internal arrangements only and it would be alcohol free.
Ground floor businesses already operating at the site are not part of the application.
A newspaper office where people wrack their brains to find ways to escape the place as it crumbles around them.
Oh the irony!

Curses “confused” you beat me to it!
yes regional press buildings must be steeped in the aura of distressed souls trying all they can to escape the oppressive surroundings they find themselves trapped in, and how apt that the players must work together to solve hidden puzzles (eg; whats going on behind closed doors)and just how long have they got before time runs out and the axe falls
you couldn’t make it up
