Regonal publisher launches online school selection channel

A new online channel to help parents choose the right school for their children has been launched by a regional publisher.

The feature is being introduced on all 160 local news websites owned by Newsquest.

It will allow parents to compare all schools in their area and across the UK with access to Ofsted reports and league tables, as well as a searchable calendar of open events.

Schools will also be able to edit and enhance their own profiles on the channel by adding messages, being able to upload school brochures and embed their Twitter feed.

Henry Faure Walker, Newsquest chief executive, said: “This is a great new site that connects and informs local people about the school and college choices in their local area.

“By providing a one stop shop for finding the right secondary school or college, it fills a neat gap in the market.”

Digital commercial manager Don Ditri added: “We all recognise that finding the right school or college is a potentially life shaping decision. The available information is often difficult to find and compare.

“In developing the site, we undertook extensive research, listening to the needs of parents, students, teachers, government bodies. The early feedback we have had from both schools and parents has been amazing.”

Heh, clever, one of the few things people will splash the cash on these days are their little darlings, who are treated less and less as children and more and more like products.

‘Our Rory is off to tap later followed by street dance and karate, in all fairness he’d rather be playing out – but what does he know?’
