Regional publisher completes group-wide web upgrade

A regional publisher has completed a group-wide makeover of its newspapers’ websites.

Johnston Press has announced the completion of the project, which has seen its titles switch to responsive sites to provide readers with a “better, faster experience” over the past year.

In total, 173 of JP’s online titles, which previously had separate desktop and mobile sites, are now fully optimised with a responsive website that adapts to the size of the device on which it is viewed.

The programme has been led by Paul Napier, the JP’s director of digital newsbrand products, with a digital team involving staff from across the company.

Said Paul: “The team has been working incredibly hard since the launch of the new Scotsman site last year.

“Much has changed in the industry and the wider world since then, and it’s fantastic to see that we’ve been able to exceed our target of making every site fully responsive by the end of the year – achieving our goal a month early.

“Launching so many sites in so many different markets has been a complex process, but with the support of many dozens of colleagues from across Johnston Press, including the whole digital product team, editorial, advertising, design, marketing, learning & development and IT, as well as our development partners Endava, we now have easy-to-navigate sites for our audiences across the UK, displaying our editorial teams’ content in the best way.”

Several of the group’s flagship dailies were the first to be upgraded in the spring, while the Brighton & Hove Independent was the last this week.

Sorry, this isn’t news, it what businesses large and small do everyday, the news is that it’s taken this long to upgrade to what is a basic web build business standard.
Popularity of any site will depend on the quality and relevance of the content after all
