Regional publisher celebrates diversity with inaugural awards

A regional publisher has held its first annual awards to celebrate diversity.

Newsquest Scotland held the awards in Glasgow, with more than 300 guests present.

The event showcased the companies, organisations and individuals that are making a difference to their communities and businesses by putting equality and diversity at the heart of their actions and in the workplace.

It is now hoped the awards will expand next year.

Graham Morrison, managing director at Newsquest Scotland, said: “The Herald’s inaugural Diversity awards marquee event, held in association with our Commercial partner GenAnalytics, was a resounding success.

“This idea was conceived by our Events team and commercial partner, and is Scotland’s only platform debating and celebrating the topical area of diversity in both society and the workplace.

“We already have plans in place for an international conference in 2017, and the Annual Diversity awards will go from strength to strength.”

Newsquest daily The Press, York, also held its annual Community Pride Awards this month.

A dozen awards were presented in front of 230 guests.

Deputy editor Stuart Martel said: “The Community Pride awards hold a special place in the hearts of the people of York as an opportunity to thank all those unsung heroes who do so much to help others and make our city the great place that it is.”
