Daily newspaper editor to sell The Big Issue

Magnus LlewellinA regional daily editor will take to the streets of his patch to sell The Big Issue.

Magnus Llewellin, editor-in-chief at Glasgow’s Herald & Times Group, will help to raise awareness of the street newspaper, which offers homeless people the chance to earn a legitimate income.

Magnus,  left, whose portfolio includes the editorship of The Herald, Glasgow, will act as a ‘guest vendor’ as part of vendor week next month.

He was invited to undertake the challenge by Maree Aldam, chief executive of the International Network of Street Papers (INSP), which is based in the Herald & Times Group’s head office in Glasgow.

Said Magnus: “We are long-term supporters of INSP and the fantastic work they do both here and abroad.

“Every year they organise this event to raise awareness of hard-working Big Issue vendors and to raise funds for poverty alleviation work in the UK and around the world.

“As part of Vendor Week, street papers all round the world organise ‘guest vendor’ events and here it’s is done to raise awareness of and money for The Big Issue.”

Magnus will undertake the challenge next month, and has set up a web page to raise sponsorship for INSP.

He added: “It’s a great cause and one I’m more than happy to support and take part in.”
