Regional daily’s Christmas homeless appeal reaches halfway point

A regional daily has reached the halfway point in its bid to raise £30,000 to help take homeless people off the streets at Christmas.

The Nottingham Post teamed up with charity Framework for the appeal after the organisation cancelled its annual sponsored sleep-out over fears that the fundraiser would be sabotaged by self-styled activists.

Among the supporters of the drive, which has so far raised £15,000, is Nottingham Rugby Club.

More than 180 donations have so far been made.

Post editor Mike Sassi said: “We all recognise that in Nottingham, like in many other big cities, there are an increasing number of men and women who find themselves sleeping rough on the streets.

“However this city is lucky that in Framework it has a dedicated and well-respected local charity that is determined to help.

“The Post’s readers and partners are very happy to support Framework staff as they try to make Christmas a little more bearable for people who are so much less fortunate than themselves.”
