Regional daily staff to take to streets in bid to clean up patch

Staff at a regional daily are set to take to the streets in a bid to clean up the newspaper’s patch.

The North West Evening Mail will be holding a litter pick in Barrow as part of its Big Clean 2016 campaign.

The campaign runs for seven months every year and has attracted people of all ages, from community groups to school children, with hundreds of people getting involved.

Evening Mail staff will stage the initiative on the morning of Monday 25 July, with the hope it will encourage other businesses to get involved.

Editor James Higgins said: “”I am ever so excited to confirm that our Evening Mail team are holding another big clean this year.

“We all had such a lovely time during our clean last year. Everybody pulled together and gave the streets around our building a good tidy up.

“I think it is so important to get out litter picking on the streets of Barrow and it’s a great team builder too.

“All the staff in our editorial office are excited to get out working as a group and hopefully some of our advertising staff will lend a hand too.”

He added: “If everybody just makes the effort to keep their own streets tidier then we can make Barrow a much more pleasant and beautiful environment to inhabit.

“We have such wonderful community spirit and charming features to our town and it is important to take pride in the cleanliness of our streets.”
