Regional daily makes fresh bid to get more defibrillators in city

A regional daily is bidding to get more defibrillators installed across the city it serves.

The Oxford Mail has been campaigning since 2014 to get more life saving pieces of equipment put in public places across Oxfordshire.

The Mail smashed its original target of increasing the number from 120 to 320 – with more than 530 now installed on village halls, shops, pubs, sports grounds and in phone boxes across the county.

However, there are fresh calls for more of the kits to be installed within Oxford city centre, and the newspaper launched a front page bid yesterday, pictured below, to encourage shops and firms to consider doing so.

Assistant Editor Keeley Rodgers said: “After hearing so many stories about people who could have been saved if there had been a defibrillator nearby we had to do something.

“The response to the campaign has been incredible, so many people have been in touch to see how they can help.

“Defibrillators cost a few hundred pounds, nothing for potentially saving somebody’s life. We’re now aiming to get more of the devices in the city centre to match the increase in numbers elsewhere in Oxfordshire.

“We have no doubt our readers and the community will do what they can to help achieve this.”
