Readers urged to help regional daily fill time capsule

A regional daily is asking readers what to include in a time capsule to be buried under a bus station.

The Citizen, Gloucester, is helping to compile the capsule, which will be buried under the newly redeveloped bus station, pictured below, in the city centre.

The Citizen has made its own suggestions as to what could be included – with ideas such as a bottle of Gloucester gold ale, Olbas Oil and a piece of masonry from the old Gloucester Citizen being touted.

A copy of the newspaper has also been suggested.

Editor Jenny Eastwood said: “The Citizen has been at the heart of the city for 140 years and we are celebrating our 140th anniversary this year.

“What better way to celebrate the history of Gloucester than by burying a time capsule under some of the new developments.”

Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “A time capsule is a good way of recording Gloucester as it is now at the start of an important period for the city.

“I believe that we a currently at a landmark moment in Gloucester’s history, at the first stage of the revitalisation of the city.”
