New PR role for deputy editor made redundant by regional daily

Alan SimpsonA deputy editor made redundant by a regional daily last year after more than three decades of service has landed a new PR role.

Alan Simpson, left, formerly of the Lancashire Telegraph, has joined Manchester based agency Viva.

Alan began his career at the Accrington Observer and went on to spent more than 35 years at the Blackburn-based Telegraph.

His was one of six roles cut by the Newsquest-owned Telegraph in November last year.

In his new role, Alan will help develop media relations strategies and new business opportunities.

He said: “This is an exciting time to be joining Viva. Tony has outlined big plans for the business and the chance to help turn those into a reality was a major attraction.

“Viva is an award winning agency, that’s bursting with great creative ideas, and one that has always had a good reputation among journalists.”

Alan will be teaming up at Viva with former Telegraph colleague Tony Garner, who is now its managing director.

Said Tony: “I know at first hand that he is extremely professional, knowledgeable and well-connected.

“I am genuinely excited to have someone of his calibre on board. There’s no doubt he will be a very valuable asset for Viva.”

“He will be working with existing clients and helping to attract new ones as we look to grow the business over the coming 12 months.”

A man has to make a living. Good luck, Alan; you can watch the final throes of this industry – in its corporate form at least – from a safe distance now.
