New book tells city’s story through archives of regional daily

A book telling a city’s story through the archives of a regional daily has been produced following the newspaper’s 125th anniversary.

The Yorkshire Evening Post’s ‘In Love With Leeds’ charts some of the city’s biggest stories chronicled in the paper since its early days.

Among other things, the book visits from royalty, world leaders and the planet’s biggest music stars, the ups and downs of Leeds United down the decades, the achievements of some of the city’s most inspirational figures and a look at how Leeds has transformed itself – from bustling town to booming city.

The book has been written by YEP feature writer and columnist Grant Woodward, pictured below.

He said: “I wanted to tell the story of Leeds in a way that had never been done before. Going through the YEP’s archives has been absolutely fascinating.

“I think there will be something to surprise and interest everyone. There are some wonderful photographs in there too that people won’t ever have seen before.”

A special offer means readers can get their name or that of a loved one printed in a list at the back of the book, provided they order by 31 August.

A bookplate dedicated to the name of their choice will also be inserted at the front of the book, signed by Grant.

‘In Love With Leeds’, priced at £20, can be ordered here.
