Journalist surprises wife with return to stage where they met

A features editor who met his wife after being given a part in a Shakespeare play to stop him reviewing it for his newspaper has recreated the meeting 40 years on.

Chris Dunn, who used to work at Huntingdon-based weekly the Hunts Post, appeared alongside his then-future wife Juno in a 1976 production of Macbeth.

The pair returned to the site of their meeting, The George Hotel, in Huntingdon, to see a production of The Tempest as a surprise visit organised by Chris to mark four decades together.

All four of the couple’s daughters are named after Shakespeare characters.

Said Chris of their meeting: “I was only a part of the play because the director, John Sheard, didn’t want me to review it for The Hunts Post as I had a reputation for saying it how it was.

“It was often that I would forget my lines as I would be looking at Juno. We’ve never forgotten how we met on the set of Macbeth and, 40 years later, she’s still bewitching me.”

The couple now live in Devon, where Chris wrote a column for the Teignmouth Post between 2009 and 2014.

Said Juno of their return to The George: “Chris wouldn’t tell me where we were going but it was a wonderful surprise.”

What parts did they play in the Scottish play?
I think we should be told!
