A journalist and military reservist ran a half-marathon carrying a backpack to raise money for charity.
South Wales Argus digital editor Martin Wade completed the Cardiff Half-Marathon with the bag, weighing 35lbs, in aid of the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
The 46-year-old RAF Reservist and member of 614 (County of Glamorgan) Squadron completed the course in one hour and 52 minutes.
Martin, pictured below on the course, raised almost £250 in the process and is still welcoming sponsorship.
Said Martin: “”I hope by doing something a little bit different, it’ll make my fundraising stand-out a bit more, which will hopefully mean more cash for the RAFBF.
“I got lots of support encouragement from fellow-runners during the race” he says, “It was quite a hot day though and the most I could manage was to raise a hand or grunt ‘cheers’.”
Martin and three other members of his squadron were joined by 22,000 other runners for the race.
On his chosen charity, he added: “They do great work providing welfare and support for serving members of the RAF, their families and veterans – so as a serving reservist, it made perfect sense.”
