Health Secretary to address regional political journalists

Jeremy HuntHealth Secretary Jeremy Hunt is set to address regional press journalists at a lunch event next month.

Mr Hunt will speak at the event, hosted by the Newspaper Conference, the organisation made up of Westminster-based correspondents of UK regional newspapers.

The Conference is chaired by Archant group political editor Annabelle Dickson, and holds regular events with senior politicians.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was guest speaker at the group’s annual lunch in January.

Speaking at the event, Mr Corbyn declared his “absolute” opposition to charging for freedom of information requests.

The event, Mr Corybn’s first press lunch since winning his party’s leadership, also described local newspapers as the “glue of the community”.

Mr Hunt, the MP for South West Surrey, has served as Health Secretary since 2012.

Then let’s hope this is an opportunity to ask real questions and challenge him on the issues that the public want answers to and isn’t an excuse for him to press the flesh and buddy up to soft and friendly targets in local media.
