A former staffer at The Argus, Brighton, might have been surprised to find himself back in print at his old paper – after being confused with a disco-dancing pensioner.
The photo of ex-chief photographer Simon Dack dressed as local legend ‘Disco Pete’ somehow found its way on to a double-page spread reporting on the latter’s recent health scare.
It is understood the mock photo had been used in the production of a farewell front page for Simon when he left the newspaper, but mistakenly made it into the spread after being kept on file.
The real ‘Disco Pete’ – aka Pete Turner – can be seen in the image on the left-hand page, below.
It’s a mistake any 130-year-old paper that once sold more than 100,000 copies a day and led the field in regional journalism could make.

But we all had a big laugh about it

Onlooker – I’m laughing and never worked there, or met any of the people involved. Feel a bit sorry for the actual disco pensioner as he now has this weird photo in his DPS to treasure.
Do we take it that the people/ person responsible for pulling this together and proofing (if that still happens) had never worked with Simon Dack? Although they should have spotted it was a completely different person.
Regardless, thanks for a great start to Friday!

Did Martin Parr take this pic? It’s quite artistic.

To be fair, the picture at the centre of it all shows someone in their prime and doesn’t look a bit like Dacky, who is way past his best. You can understand how the mistake happened.

Central subbing me thinks.

JC, Brighton… Central subbing? It’s the papers that choose the pics!
