Former regional editor’s funeral to take place today

austin-hunterThe funeral of a former regional newspaper editor who was knocked down and killed in a road crash is to take place today.

Austin Hunter, left, was killed while on a business trip to Bahrain the weekend before last.

Austin was editor of Belfast daily the News Letter from 2004 to 2006 and also worked for the BBC during the Troubles.

The 64-year-old father-of-two will be laid to rest at Second Comber Presbyterian Church at 2pm this afternoon.

Austin was in Bahrain working for the not-for-profit organisation Northern Ireland Co-operation Overseas when he died.

A man has been questioned by police in Bahrain in connection with his death.

Austin’s long career in the media also included a stint in PR with the RUC and Police Service of Northern Ireland.

He is survived by his wife Jean, children Simon and Rachael, grandchildren Matthew and Heidi and brother Adrian.
