Regional daily publishes deathbed photo of stabbed teen

camran-green-1A photograph of a stabbed teenager on his deathbed has been published by a regional daily in a bid to send out a “strong message” about knife crime.

The Gloucestershire Echo published what it termed the “distressing image” of 17-year-old Camran Green at the request of his mother.

Camran, pictured above left, died last Monday after being stabbed in the stomach in Cheltenham.

Steven Sharpe, 31, who is from the town, appeared in Bristol Crown Court yesterday charged with his murder.

The photo, above, published by the Echo and companion website Gloucestershire Live shows Mr Green’s mother Emma, 35, with her head on his chest as he passed away in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

She told the Echo: “People need to understand what a knife does to you – not just the person who’s stabbed but the people around them.

“Using a knife doesn’t resolve anything, it just means you’ll get caught and go to prison. And as a mother it’s the worst thing possible to be told your son’s been killed by a knife.”

Gloucestershire Live editor Jenny Eastwood said: “This is clearly a very distressing image and we thought long and hard about using it.

“But we thought it was vital to send a strong message against knife crime.”
