Council awards posthumous honour to picture editor and training chief

peter-dashA regional daily pictured editor and training chief who died earlier this year has been honoured by his hometown.

Blackwood Town Council, in South Wales, has given a posthumous civic award to former South Wales Argus photographer Peter Dash, who passed away this summer aged 68.

The council described Peter as an “ambassador” for Blackwood in presenting the accolade to his widow Christine and daughter Peggy.

Peter served as chairman and chief examiner of The National Council for the Training of Journalists’ photography examinations board during his career.

Accepting the award, Christine said: “I am very honoured to accept this award on Peter’s behalf from Blackwood Town Council.

“I know Peter isn’t too far away, beaming and quietly proud that you deem what he did naturally all his life, helping everyone when he could – especially anyone from his beloved Blackwood – worthy of such an accolade.”

John Hold, clerk of Blackwood Town Council, said Peter was someone “who lived and breathed his job”.

He added: “He was very proud of the town and was always keen to promote it in any way that he could.

“It was very sad to hear the news of Peter’s passing but he always handled himself with compassion and humour. It was fitting for the council to award him with this recognition.”
