City news website to sponsor international comedy festival

A city news website is set to sponsor an annual comedy festival of its patch.

Glasgow Live has announced the partnership ahead of the city’s 15th annual International Comedy Festival, which is recognised as one of Europe’s biggest comedy festivals.

Acts appearing at this year’s festival include Jimmy Carr, Al Murray, Stewart Lee and Russell Howard.

Glasgow Live, which was set up by Trinity Mirror in April, covers local news, weather, traffic, what’s on and lifestyle.

Editor Gregor Kyle said: “Glasgow Live champions all that’s best about Glasgow and the city’s unique sense of humour is high on that list.

“That’s why we are so pleased to be supporting the Glasgow Live International Comedy Festival – which brings some of the funniest people in the world to our city.”

The festival will be held between 9 March and 26 March.

Joe Aitken, head of major events at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “Glaswegians are renowned for their hospitality and good humour so it’s no surprise that we’re home to one of the best comedy festivals in the world.

“Over the years we’ve welcomed some of the biggest – and funniest – comedians to Glasgow and they come back time and again because we’re a city that knows how to put on a show.

“With the announcement of Glasgow Live’s new headline sponsorship, I’m sure the festival will continue to go from strength to strength, providing a laughter-packed programme of great shows and events, in some terrific venues, for visitors and locals alike.”
