City daily helps share first copy of ex-regional editor’s magazine

The first edition of a former regional editor’s business magazine has been published with help from a city daily.

Business Cloud, co-founded by ex-Chorley and Leyland Guardian editor Chris Maguire, hit the streets today with an initial print run of just under 20,000 copies.

Of these 12,500 have been distributed inside Greater Manchester Business Week, a weekly business magazine found inside the Manchester Evening News.

The full colour magazine is 80 pages in size and will focus on “demystifying technology for a business audience”.

Chris teamed up with computing entrepreneur Lawrence Jones MBE, CEO of UKFast, to produce the publication, which will initially be every two months.

However, there are plans to switch publication frequency to monthly if there is sufficient demand.

Said Chris: “As a team we only came together 10 weeks ago so to produce a quality magazine in such a short space of time is a tremendous achievement.”

He added: “We’re looking at all sectors that technology impacts on, including healthcare, education, Fintech, crowdfunding; sport etc. The list is endless.

“As well as the print product we’re videoing some of our roundtables and events and producing podcasts.”

Chris has been joined by deputy editor Jonathan Symcox, who led news production at Mirror Online for two-and-a-half years, and events director Andrea Wolfendale.

They are also working with a number of freelance journalists and designers.

Chris, a journalist of 25 years, has previously worked for a number of papers including the Daily Mail, Gloucestershire Echo and Yorkshire Evening Post.

A past Newspaper Society Journalist of the Year, he left the Chorley Guardian to join North West Business Insider in 2012 after overseeing an increase in the paper’s circulation.
