Campaign success as regional daily ‘brings home the bacon’

A regional daily has succeeded in its bid to ‘bring home the bacon’ by buying two ceramic pig sculptures for charity.

As previously reported on HTFP, the Ipswich star called on readers to help raise £5,000 to purchase the pigs for the town’s St Elizabeth Hospice, whose Pigs Gone Wild charity project the newspaper backs.

The project saw more than 40 pig sculptures transformed into works of art after being given out to organisations across Suffolk, then auctioned off in ai of the hospice.

However, the ‘Hog for our Hospice’ appeal was launched in order to keep two of the artworks on permanent display outside the facility.

Star editor Brad Jones said: “A huge thank you to everyone for their generous donations to this campaign – we smashed the target in just two weeks.

“The Pigs Gone Wild trail was such a huge success for the town, and it seemed only right that we did something to thank St Elizabeth Hospice for organising it.

“We’re overwhelmed with the response – from people of all ages – and it’s brilliant to think the hospice will now get to keep Dr Trott and Nurse Honey-cured as a legacy and reminder of the joy this trail brought to Ipswich over the summer.

“And, importantly, all the money pledged for the campaign will help fund its vital services.”
