Weekly’s Civil War supplement marks new museum’s opening

A weekly marked the opening of a new civil war museum on its patch with a special 16-page supplement.

The supplement in the Newark Advertiser features stories and pictures about the £5.4m National Civil War Centre and its exhibitions, Newark’s role in the conflict, and interviews with actors and production staff behind a series of films accessed via a Civil War Trail app.

It also contains a centre spread showing how Newark looked in 1646 and a full schedule of events planned for the opening weekend, including battle re-enactments involving more than 1,000 historical society members.

The museum in the Nottinghamshire town opened its doors at the weekend, and took an extra 10,000 copies of the supplement to give to visitors over the Bank Holiday.

The supplement, front page pictured above, was produced by deputy news editor Lucy Millard and sub-editor Tim Morriss.

Editor Chris Prime said: “It is estimated that the centre will attract 60,000 visitors a year so the opening is a huge event for Newark and the supplement reflects that.

“The early feedback indicates that it has been very well received.”
