Weekly marks 35th birthday with new community campaign

A community campaign was launched at a party celebrating a weekly newspaper’s 35th birthday.

To mark the milestone, the North Somerset Times launched its The Times’ Birthday Presents campaign, which aims to help 35 good causes on its patch.

Readers will nominate chosen causes and businesses will sponsor and fundraise for them.

The party was attended by staff, readers and advertisers at a pub in Clevedon, and featured a cake in the shape of a front page, pictured below.

Times commercial director Sally Eyre said: “The event was a great success and we all enjoyed toasting the Times’ longevity.

“The cake was amazing and the younger ones certainly enjoyed their time on the bouncy castle.”

To start the project, the Times picked five of the causes which will benefit.

They are Portishead RNLI, Children’s Hospice South West, Nailsea Skatepark Project, the Royal British Legion and Clevedon District Foodbank.
