Weekly in social media bid to bring big name retailers to patch

A weekly newspaper has launched a social media campaign aimed at bringing more big name retailers its patch.

The Hinckley Times has set up its #HinckleysMostWanted drive following the opening of a flagship Sainsbury’s superstore in the town as part of a new development.

Many units are still available at the £60m development, known as The Crescent, and the Times is surveying its readers on Facebook and Twitter to find out which shops and restaurants they want to occupy them.

At present chicken chain Nando’s is the respondents’ first choice, while Next and Primark outlets are also sought after.

Editor Simon Holden said: “The new development has been 16 years in the making and our readers are really keen to get some big names into the town.

“We already have our first cinema for over 20 years as well as Prezzo, TK Maxx and Costa Coffee.

“But our readers would love Nando’s and Next. They topped our poll of Hinckley’s most wanted stores.

“So we decided we would launch a campaign to try and get them – or any other stores for that matter.”
