Ant and Dec guest edit front and back pages of hometown daily

TV stars Ant and Dec guest edited the front and back pages of their hometown paper during a tour of its offices.

The duo chose the front and back pages of Saturday’s edition of The Chronicle, Newcastle, after sitting in on Friday’s editorial conference, pictured below.

Their office visit was part of a scheme by The Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund charity, which encouraged people across the Newcastle area to dress up as superheroes for the day to raise funds for disabled and disadvantaged children.

The back page they chose related to the pair’s favourite football club Newcastle United, and alluded to the hit TV programme ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here’ which they present.

The page, pictured below, ran with the headline “We’re a big club – get us out of here!” in reference to relegation-threatened United’s current plight.

They also picked their ideal starting XI for the club and urged fellow supporters to get behind the team, while also berating the players’ recent performances.

Ant told The Chronicle: “The title (of our back page) summed it up. We’re a big club, get us out of here, get us out of this mess that we constantly see them finding themselves in.

“We didn’t have to be in that situation. Eight losses on the bounce is ridiculous – ridiculous.

“If we took a couple of points earlier, won a couple of games earlier it could have been different.

“We were the last team that should have been sucked into all of that. But here we are, we find ourselves again in that situation.”

Editor Darren Thwaites said: “It was a good, fun conference and the guys really got stuck into it. They did a great job and can come back any time they like.

“The money raised on the day will help make life better for many disabled children across our region.”

I wonder what the splash headline will be when Chubby Brown edits the Middlesbrough Gazette next week.
