Sister dailies produce wraparounds to celebrate play-off triumph

Two sister dailies produced souvenir poster editions to celebrate their local football club’s play-off victory over its arch rivals.

The Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News both printed wraparounds on Monday after Norwich City beat Ipswich Town to secure local bragging rights in the Championship play-off semi final.

Their victory over two legs mean City will now face Middlesbrough at Wembley, the club’s first visit to the historic stadium in 30 years, for the right to compete in the Premier League next season.

A 16-page ‘Pink Un’ supplement featured inside the EDP and 14 pages were also dedicated to City’s success in the Evening News.

Nigel Pickover, the two titles’ editor, said: “The Canaries beat The Tractor Boys 3-1 in front of a sold-out home crowd.

“The victory prompted a carnival atmosphere around the city and wider Norfolk and north Suffolk.

He added: “With a bumper 16-page Pink Un supplement inside the EDP and 14 pages dedicated to City’s success in the Evening News, Canaries fans were able to relive the historic victory again in the special Monday editions.

“It begins another week of increased coverage as around 40,000 supporters prepare to turn the capital yellow and green in support of their team.”
