Regional publisher aims to hit the mark with new shooting magazine

A regional publisher has launched a new monthly shooting magazine to add to its existing portfolio of specialist titles.

Archant has launched Rifle Shooter, which is produced by the team behind Sporting Shooter and Clay Shooter from their Wokingham office.

Rifle Shooter will complement Archant Specialist’s existing shooting titles and the publisher said it would allow it to cover every area of the shooting market.

The October first edition of the magazine, pictured below, has now hit the newsstands with a cover price of £4.25.

The new title is edited by Dom Halton, who is himself a keen rifle shooter.

He said: “It is great to be involved in a brand new magazine and it reflects the strong performance of our shooting titles in the past 18 months as well as the growing optimism within the industry from a commercial perspective.

“Rifle ownership in the UK is at its highest level since records started, buoyed in part by the fact we have the highest deer population in the UK since the ice age.

“Hunting abroad is increasingly popular while the target shooting scene – in particular long-range shooting – is also very healthy.

“We have a fantastic team of contributors from the UK and Europe, delivering expert tuition, in-depth tests and reviews and the kind of knowledge you only get from many years of in-the-field experience.

“I want to also offer a huge thank you to all of those involved in delivering the product – from the retail and circulation side to the digital gang and our commercial team… and especially to my editorial crew who burned all that midnight oil to ensure issue one went to press on time and looking so good.”

Typical Archant ,completely out of touch with modern thinking and not understanding their primary audience base.

And with regards to the quote; “Hunting abroad is increasingly popular…”this must be of great interest to their German dentist readership!
Another ill timed, Ill thought out blunder by those making the ridiculous decisions at Archant towers these days and comes on the back of Henry saying they’ll only produce products in areas where they are market leaders , in this case when it comes to shooting themselves in the foot they’re streets ahead of anyone else.
Must keep the huntin shootin fishin members of the board happy and supported by the yes men who’ve given this ridiculous title the thumbs up.
Another self inflicted nail in this company’s coffin

A pat on the back from the braying hooray Henry’s and yet another rung up the ladder towards Jeff McHenry making Archant the leading joke regional news group in the uk.

Clueless board, top heavy with out of touch editors and and embarrassing place to work nowadays
    Shameful

Good luck with this publication. Specialist titles like this bring out the best in journalism. Don’t know why people are against it. Juan – why are you knocking fishing? I can’t think of a more environmentally friendly sport.

well the tally-ho brigade (dear-dear-johnny H and his hooray-Henry’s) have do it again!
Seriously have to question the relevance and mass appeal of this title – but i’m sure the advertising revenues will more than pay for the set-up costs – or let me guess, another loss making title to go with the others, in their woeful portfolio of very very niche products. That will be another title to avoid on the magazine stand.

Lovely picture of a “trophy” stag on the front cover. Just the right size for shooting. What a sick pursuit!
