Regional daily reporter switches to PR role

LauraWildA reporter with the Lancashire Evening Post has become the latest recruit for Preston-based PR agency Freshfield.

Laura Wild, left, who was at the Johnston Press-owned daily for three years, has joined the firm as a senior PR executive, supporting PR, content marketing and social media programmes across its client portfolio.

Freshfield managing director, Simon Turner, said: “Laura has a great reputation within the regional business community and her passion and ability make her a natural fit for the PR and communications industry.

“She brings with her a wealth of experience in content development and creating stories that have impact. We’re looking forward to seeing Laura applying these skills to our client campaigns. It’s great to have her on board.”

Laura, 26, added: “I’m excited to be part of a passionate team whose reputation is second to none and I know my journalism experience will serve me well in not only meeting, but exceeding client expectations.”

Other recent job moves in the regional press include the following:

  • Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard reporter Elliot Cass has left the paper. He is joining the global childrens’ rights advocacy network crin.org, writing interviews and case studies to help promote children’s rights across the world.
  • Ruth Mansfield has left her role as deputy news editor of the South Wales Argus to join Media Wales as assistant content editor, covering Wales Online, the Western Mail, South Wales Echo and Wales on Sunday. The Argus has appointed Becky Carr as her replacement.
  • Luke Powell has joined the Eastern Daily Press as a reporter covering local crime, real life, and general news stories. He was previously a district reporter at the Congleton Chronicle Series.
  • Halifax Courier news editor Chris Lever has been additionally appointed as news editor of the sister Johnston Press titles the Hebden Bridge Times, Todmorden News and Brighouse Echo.
  • Lisa Wright, previously a digital journalist with the Express & Star, has been appointed deputy chief reporter at the paper, covering news in Wolverhampton.
  • Press Association transport and travel correspondent Peter Woodman has retired after 36 years with the agency, 28 of them covering the transport and travel beat. A replacement in the role has not yet been appointed.
  • Philip Duncan, previously a sport reporter at Mail Online, has been appointed as PA’s Formula One correpondent, replacing Ian Parkes who has become F1 editor at Autosport magazine in May.

    Laura’s colleagues were stunned that anyone would even consider leaving LEP Towers as it embarks on its exciting and fantastic Newsroom of the Future (slight return) project.
    However, on reflection they assumed that the chance to actually write some content, instead of just cut and pasting it, must have proved too tempting.
