Editor steps up to publisher role at regional daily

Mike Sassi (2)A regional daily editor is to take on a wider brief with his promotion to a publisher role.

Mike Sassi, editor of the Nottingham Post for the past two years, is to become publisher of the title, which was recently bought by Trinity Mirror.

Mike, pictured left, moved to the Post having previously edited The Sentinel, Stoke, and the Lincolnshire Echo over the course of a 27-year career with Northcliffe Media and its successor company, Local World.

He will continue to edit the paper in addition to his publisher duties which will include overseeing newspaper sales, advertising and events.

The move is the first senior appointment to be made in the now newly-enlarged group since TM took control of Local World last week.

David Simms, regional publisher and managing director said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mike as publisher. Mike has a wealth of experience built up over the years working for Northcliffe newspapers in Lincoln and Stoke, before joining the Nottingham Post almost three years ago.

“In that time, he has had great success in building commercial networks that have helped drive business.

“Over the past 12 months Nottingham has delivered some terrific results in what is still a relatively tough trading environment. Mike’s appointment will help us build on this year’s progress and ensure that we further develop and grow the business.”

Mike will take up his new role on 30 November.
