New print editor appointed at city daily

Susan LeeA new print editor has been appointed at a regional daily following a reshuffle triggered by an editor’s decision to stand down.

Susan Lee, left, began work in her new role at the Liverpool Echo on Monday, after its previous holder Andrew Campbell left to succeed Mark Thomas as editor of the North Wales Daily Post.

In the role, Susan will be responsible for choosing and promoting the content to strengthen the Echo’s print proposition to readers following its recent relaunch.

She will work closely with Richard Williamson, executive editor responsible for print production, and the print team.

Susan will also stand in for the Echo’s digital editor Maria Breslin in her absence.

Born and raised in the Tuebrook area of Liverpool, Susan began her career as a trainee reporter with the Southport Visiter before moving to the Crosby Herald, then the Bootle Times.

She worked for the Halifax Courier before returning to Merseyside as a reporter on the Liverpool Daily Post.

Susan had stints as news editor at the Liverpool Post, women’s editor of the Echo, features editor of the Echo and latterly, as its executive editor responsible for brand and agenda.

I just love the description of what her role is – surely that’s roughly what an editor does?

You can tell when a press release has been written by a marketing suit & not a journalist, can’t you? I assume that what it means is that Susan will be the editor, doing the editor’s – or at least, news editor’s – job. HTFP, you shouldn’t have shamed yourself by allowing that absurd quote to appear.

Too right, Luka, though I have fond memories of working alongside Brandon Agenda when he got by without an executive editor being responsible for him.

Hilarious. The “print editor” is effectively deputy to the “digital editor”.
