Queen sends ‘best wishes’ to journalists as weekly relaunches

A message from the Queen and special front page wrap marked a weekly newspaper’s relaunch.

The Somerset County Gazette announced its new look on the front page of yesterday’s edition with a message to readers, as well as a collage of memorable past fronts on the back page.

The Taunton-based newspaper also received a goodwill message form Her Majesty, who sent “best wishes to all concerned” and wished staff “a successful and enjoyable year ahead”.

The full redesign includes dedicated Business and Country platforms, as well as an entertainment pullout, The Guide.

County Gazette publisher Liz Bond, who joined the business last month, said: “I am delighted to be joining the County Gazette team at such an exciting time.

“Our fresh, new look paper and website include some great sections such as Country, Business, Community News and TA21 (a monthly guide to Wellington), plus our revamped entertainment section, The Guide and our extended sports coverage of grass roots and youth teams will, inevitably, recruit new consumers of our products.

“We aim to continue to be Somerset’s number one choice for readers and advertisers alike and with our growing audience will continue to serve our local community for many more years to come.”

The comment piece on the front page reads: “Your old friend is getting a new look but , as ever, we will remain at the heart of the community.”

Lovely comments from our esteemed Publisher, but why wasn’t the editor at the forefront of events? I think we should be told.

Because the editor is currently fighting cancer and is away sick. Consider yourself told.

You’ve hit the nail on the head, publishers, many of whom have a bare grasp of the English language are now King. It’s hysterical reading some of the stuff they send out, yet they have all become ‘experts’ in editorial. The children are in charge of organising their own tea party. Mayhem!

Journalists are there to ask questions: The good, the bad, and the ugly.
