Publisher back on Target as axed freesheet revived after eight years

Grimsby TargetA free newspaper axed eight years ago has been revived by a regional publisher.

The Grimsby Target is once again set to reach more than 33,000 homes across North East Lincolnshire, having originally been withdrawn from publication in March 2007.

The 32-page Target will serve as a monthly sister title to the Grimsby Telegraph, which is part of Local World.

The August edition of the revived paper, pictured left, which ran for 24 years before it was first axed, features pictures, stories, and sport, as well as commercial offers and advertisements.

A competition to find the Target’s revived ‘Tommy Target’ mascot also features, with readers able to win a £20 shopping voucher if they spot him within its pages.

Rachel Salter, the head of advertising at the Grimsby Telegraph, publishers of the Target, said: “We have listened to what our customers want and responded by bringing back this much-loved product.

“The response has already been overwhelming and we have had terrific support for the new Target.

“I take this opportunity to thank all those who continue to support all our products.”

A story announcing the revival on the Telegraph’s site also claims its website now reaches 40,000 daily average unique browsers.

Editor Michelle Lalor said: “There is a general perception among some that regional newspapers are struggling for audience – they are not.

“Yes, times have moved on but we have moved on with those times and now we have a total daily audience of tens of thousands and as a result are in a stronger position than we have ever been. We thank our audience for their support.”

    My second job was at the Boston Target under George Wheatman. What a great paper and editorship that was! Great memories.

    Oh please bring back that 90%advertising crappy paper that you ditched in a cost cutting exercise said no reader or advertiser ever.
